THE ROTARY CLUB OF SOUTH GLADSTONE
Stephen Rousseau - Club President
What an honour it is to take on the presidency for South Gladstone Rotary Club, My aim is to be organised and do my best in serving you and representing our club.
It seems like a short time since I was introduced to the South Gladstone Club, and Rotary for that matter, time really does fly when you're having Fun, Fellowship and doing Service. I would encourage all members, particularly our newer members to inject themselves into our many projects and feel confident to bring new ideas to the directors. I will be doing my very best to support them and create the opportunities for them to grow within the club and Rotary.
The incoming Rotary International President John F Germ has chosen the theme for Rotary year 2016-17, "Rotary Serving Humanity", Rotary, serving all mankind, regardless of race, position or gender. As a strong advocate for our charity, the Rotary Foundation and its long history of service to humanity, he reminds us that; sometime soon, maybe this year or maybe the next; the world will witness one of the greatest humanitarian events ever seen; when we End Polio and declare the wild polio virus has been eradicated.
This no longer a dream that started some 37 years ago when Rotary International took up the fight, it will be a reality in our short future. It would be remiss of me not to mention the great work of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Who match $2 for every $1 Rotary contributes, because now more than ever we must finish the fight.
This is the strength of Rotary in action and it begins in a venue such as this all around the work in 33000 clubs with some 1.3 million members. The Gladstone area clubs, Group 7 as we are referred to, has had a great year, it is a strong group of individual clubs working together on many occasions with great results and I am sure that the group will only get stronger.
We also have an amazing Rotaract Club and 2 Interact Clubs locally with some great talent and members with commitment, who are always ready to lend a hand. It has been inspiring to witness their successes and growth; Rotaract rebounding from a position of low membership and our sponsored Toolooa State High School Interact Club from inception. With young people like this, the future of Rotary is in very good hands.
South Gladstone Rotary will continue to support them in their endeavours and maintain the many projects and events we undertake annually. I will be endeavouring to strengthen and position our club so we can utilise the Rotary Foundation effectively and cooperatively within our community and abroad.
It is indeed exciting times for Rotary and when we “End Polio”. Who knows what the next challenge will be?
I look forward to the fun, fellowship and the service I will share with you all,
Thank you very much,
